Awesome Find in Sandia Park, NM

took these photos of a Red-Tailed Hawk in Sandia Park New Mexico while taking a walk.

I was so happy that I went back and got my camera before going out. I can’t believe how close it let me get.  When it didn’t fly away I thought it might be hurt.

A Day At The Zoo

It was a beautiful fall day at the BioPark in Albuquerque, NM

The city of Albuquerque and the NM BioPark Society presents:

River of Lights…A holiday light show

November 24th – December 30th

I took the picture below when they were still putting up the lights so I only got a teaser of what it was going to be like. I can’t wait to go. I’ve been told it’s awesome.

Our First Hummingbird Arrived

Our first hummingbird arrived on April 12th.  It was a nice surprise because I didn’t think they would be here for at least another week or so.

I have to take the pictures of them through the window for now.  Hopefully they will let me get closer after they’ve been here for awhile.

I thought the wine bottle shaped feeder was cute, I found it at Walmart for $3.97.   I’m going to hang it out back outside my kitchen window after I get another one to replace the one out front.  The hummingbirds have no trouble finding this feeder.

Hummingbird Nectar Recipe

It is a very simple recipe of 1 part ordinary white cane sugar to 4 parts water.  Some say to boil the mixture but I never have.  If your water is good enough for you to drink it should be safe for the hummingbirds.  If you do boil the mixture do not boil for more than 2 minutes because the water will evaporate and change the ratio of the water and sugar.  If it has a higher sugar content it could attract ants and bees and other insects.

I used 1/4 cup of sugar to 1 cup of water for my mixture because I didn’t want to make a lot, but you can make more and store it in the refrigerator.  It can be stored up to 2 weeks in the refrigerator.

Happy bird watching!

…and more bird pics coming soon 🙂

My PC Buddy

This is Mari our cat. He loves hanging out at my desk.  We rescued him from a local animal shelter about 6 months ago.  I’m not sure who picked who but he is a part of our family now.  He is such a good kitty.

There are so many cats and kittens waiting for good homes in animal shelters and rescue centers.  Dogs and puppies too, are waiting for homes.  We rescued two cats and one dog and we are very happy with them.

Cat In The Window

I took these pictures of Catcher when we lived in Gallup, NM.  At the time we also had another cat and dog that we rescued from animal shelters.  Catcher didn’t live at our house at first.  He lived across the street at my neighbors house.  My neighbor loved our cat so much that she wanted to adopt a cat for her boys.  The cat she adopted started spending more and more time at our house.  I found out later that the boys were terrorizing him.  I was selling Avon at the time and my neighbor was one of my best customers. One day she came to me and asked me if I wanted Catcher.  She said that all of his shots were up to date and that she would trade him for eight shampoos.  Eight shampoos for my Catcher…what a deal! He has been such a wonderful part of our family ever since.

He loved sitting in that window watching the birds. You can’t see it in the picture but there is a bird feeder right behind him with about 5 inches of snow on top of it.

Catcher lives in Arizona now with my kids and grand kids.  He’s such a good kitty…he likes bringing them mice and gophers as presents 🙂
